Why Forfar Trusts WaveTech for Double Glazing

Built for Inland Winters

Forfar's inland position puts it squarely in Scotland's coldest climate zone. We fit A-rated systems specified for that environment — properly sealed against penetrating Grampian winds and the long freezes that coastal towns escape.

Full Range of uPVC & Glass Options

uPVC casements, sash replicas, tilt & turn, bay and bow, composite doors, patio and French doors. Three interior finishes — trim, full and plastered — so you choose the level of detailing.

Energy Efficiency Built In

Argon-filled cavities and low-emissivity glass as standard, cutting heat loss by up to 50% versus single glazing. Veka sculptured uPVC — first UK PVC-U manufacturer with a BFRC A rating. Payback periods are shorter in cold inland zones.

Comprehensive 10-Year Guarantee

Frames, sealed units, moving parts and rubber seals — all covered. Our guarantee covers workmanship, product performance and component integrity from the moment we finish.

Trusted Local Reputation

Fully compliant installer working to Scottish Building Standards. The only company in Scotland offering window installation and in-house spraying under one roof.

Why Choose WaveTech for Double Glazing in Forfar

Forfar's inland position beyond the Sidlaw Hills puts it squarely in Scotland's coldest climate zone. Winter winds from the Grampians, snow that sits longer than on the coast, and prolonged freezing spells all place extra demands on windows. If your frames are old PVC, deteriorating aluminium or worse — rotting timber — they're costing you a fortune in lost heat. Modern Veka-certified double glazing is the answer, with A-rated thermal performance designed specifically for Scottish winters.

WaveTech Exteriors is Veka-certified and works to Scottish Building Standards. Every installation we complete meets your local authority's requirements, and we handle the Building Warrant process on your behalf where required. Our installers measure, manufacture and install to tolerances of 2mm or less, so your new uPVC frames sit flush and your sealed glass units perform exactly as rated. All sealed units are made to BS EN 1279 standards.

We offer a price-match promise against any like-for-like written quote from another reputable installer in Forfar or Angus. No pressure sales, no inflated "discounts" — just a fair, transparent quote based on the actual specification you need. Pair your new windows with new composite doors from Rock Door or finish the exterior with our wall coating service for a complete envelope upgrade — both can pay back faster in Forfar's climate.

Every project is backed by a 10-year WaveTech Exteriors guarantee covering frames, sealed units, moving parts and rubber seals. We also provide aftercare visits at 12 months post-installation to check drainage channels, adjust hinges and confirm your double glazed units remain condensation-free.

Our Double Glazing Systems

Veka uPVC Windows

Our primary window system comes from Veka, the trusted German manufacturer. These uPVC frames offer exceptional thermal performance with multi-chamber construction that maximises insulation — exactly what Forfar's climate demands. Available in white, grey and black finishes, they're virtually maintenance-free and proven to outlast older PVC frames by decades.

As Veka-certified installers, we know that certification evaluates the complete system. Veka's Window Energy Ratings assess U-value (heat loss), G-value (solar heat gain) and air leakage — all dependent on proper installation of the whole window. This is the honest truth for Forfar: you can have premium frames and glass, but if they're not installed correctly and sealed properly, the cold still gets in around the gaps. Our expert fitting ensures every joint seals perfectly to maximise the thermal and security benefits every Veka installation is designed to deliver.

Triple Glazing

Triple glazing is approximately 15% more expensive than quality double glazing, and although it delivers a better U-value, it doesn't justify the extra cost for most Forfar homes. Properly fitted double glazing is sufficient for the vast majority of properties. We only recommend triple glazing for specific situations — mainly noise reduction or very exposed locations. Even then, acoustic glass in a well-fitted double-glazed frame often delivers equivalent sound performance at lower cost. Installation quality always outweighs premium specs.

Coloured & Woodgrain Finishes

Our Veka uPVC frames come in foil finishes — a wrap rather than paint — in a carefully selected range for Forfar's diverse housing. Available options include rosewood, golden oak, anthracite grey, black and chartwell green (popular for cottage-style properties). Standard white remains the most common choice. These foil finishes provide authentic aesthetics without compromising the thermal performance and low-maintenance durability that Forfar's harsh winters demand.

Window Styles

Window Styles for Forfar Homes

Casement

The traditional side-opening style remains hugely popular across Forfar's terraced villas and estate properties. Quality hinged systems that open fully for ventilation, with modern multi-point locking mechanisms and optional integral blinds.

Tilt & Turn

Increasingly popular in renovation projects. Open inward at the bottom for gentle ventilation or fully swing open for easy cleaning. Secure, flexible and particularly valued in family homes where safety and flexibility matter.

Sash Replicas

For older Forfar properties where traditional character is important, we supply replica sash windows that capture the authentic appearance of period homes while delivering double glazing performance and modern security.

Bay & Bow

Maximise natural light and create character. Our bay and bow installations enhance kerb appeal, add usable internal space and are fitted as complete sealed units to ensure perfect thermal continuity.

Fixed

Frameless or minimalist-framed fixed glazing for contemporary design, feature walls or maximising views.

Signs You Need New Windows

Why Forfar Homeowners Are Upgrading

Forfar's inland winters are relentless. If your current windows are 15+ years old, they're costing you in heat loss. If any of these apply, get in touch for an honest assessment.

Condensation & Damp

Older windows with poor seals allow moisture to penetrate, leading to mould growth, condensation between panes, blown units and damp patches spreading across internal walls. Modern sealed double glazing systems eliminate this problem entirely, keeping your home healthier and protecting wall finishes.

Draughts & Cold Spots

Ill-fitting frames let cold air pour in, creating uncomfortable draughts and cold spots you can feel by the window. New, precision-fitted frames with modern gaskets seal out the cold completely, meaning your home feels warmer and your heating works more efficiently.

End-of-Life Bett's-Era Frames

A lot of Forfar's stock includes 1960s–80s Bett's estate properties. Many of those original PVC frames are now end-of-life — stiff handles, dropped sashes, jamming windows. Forcing a window risks cracking the glass or snapping the locking bar.

Tired Timber Frames

Tired of sanding and repainting timber frames? Modern uPVC frames require occasional cleaning but no ongoing maintenance. They won't rot, warp or need redecorating — a significant benefit over 20 years.

Rising Heating Bills

Modern double glazing, properly installed, contributes meaningfully to keeping your home warmer. The real benefit comes from correct fitting, not premium specs. In Forfar's climate the payback period is shorter than in milder areas — energy savings are noticeably greater.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is energy efficiency so important for Forfar windows?
Forfar sits inland beyond the Sidlaw Hills at the foot of the Grampians, which means harsher winters and colder overall temperatures than coastal towns like Arbroath. Snow sits longer, wind is more penetrating and heating bills run higher. A-rated double glazing is essential — the energy savings in a Forfar winter will be noticeably greater than in milder areas, so the payback period is shorter.
What's the difference between double and triple glazing?
Double glazing has two panes of glass with a sealed air gap; triple has three. Triple glazing offers better thermal insulation (lower U-value) and slightly better sound insulation. It's heavier and more expensive, so it's worth considering if your Forfar home is particularly exposed to the wind or if heating costs are a major concern. For most properties, quality A-rated double glazing is excellent.
Are Veka windows better than other brands?
Veka is a German manufacturer with 50+ years of reputation for consistent quality and performance. We chose Veka because their multi-chamber uPVC profiles deliver excellent thermal performance, they're widely available, spare parts are easy to source and they're proven reliable in Scottish inland climates. Other quality systems exist, but Veka offers proven reliability at competitive pricing.
Will new windows look right on my terraced villa or Bett's estate home?
Absolutely. Modern window frames come in a range of styles and finishes. For traditional terraced properties or 1960s–80s estate homes, we can match colour and style to suit. Casement windows suit most traditional properties beautifully, and if you prefer period authenticity, replica sash windows are an option. We'll discuss what works best for your property during the free survey.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the number of windows and property access, but typically: 4 windows (small cottage), 1 day; 6–8 windows (average terraced house), 2 days; 10+ windows (larger property), 2–3 days. We work efficiently to minimise disruption while maintaining exacting standards.
What about condensation inside the new windows?
Modern sealed double glazing virtually eliminates condensation between the panes. Occasional condensation on the inside surface during very cold mornings is normal — it simply means the window is working and insulating properly. Wipe it away with a cloth. If condensation is persistent, it usually points to indoor humidity (poor ventilation, drying laundry indoors, etc.) rather than the window itself.
Do I need building warrant for new windows in Forfar?
In most cases, no. Window replacement within the existing frame opening typically doesn't require warrant under Scottish Building Standards. However, if you're enlarging windows, altering structural elements or making significant changes, warrant may apply. We'll advise during the survey and can guide you through any necessary procedures.
What guarantees do you offer?
We provide comprehensive product warranties from the manufacturer (typically 10 years on frames, seals and hinges) plus our own labour guarantee covering our installation workmanship. Full warranty details are provided with your quote.
